For sales and advice about how to use gibberellic acid, talk to Webber & Chivell Fertilisers. While gibberellic acid is a naturally occurring substance, we provide a synthetic option for Victoria’s farmers.

Gibberellic acid growth regulant (Accellerate 200SG, Festival 100 and ProGibb) is a naturally occurring plant hormone, that is animal safe and has no grazing withhold. It will not effect pasture quality, with research showing no significant change to pasture dry matter, moisture content, crude protein, digestibility or metabolizable energy. Gibberellic acid stimulates cell expansion resulting in stem and leaf elongation through mobilising plant energy reserves. It can be applied to most pasture types, especially ryegrass, cocksfoot and Phalaris.

Applying gibberellic acid to your pastures stimulates rapid plant growth and is more effective when colder temperatures (5-15 degree) slow pasture production. The application of Gibberellic acid in Autumn and Winter aims to stimulate plant growth and therefore increase feed availability on dairy farms.

Gibberellic acid is a highly cost-effective growth stimulant for dairy, sheep and beef farmers. With low rates of product required to produce significant gains in dry matter yield, for up to 4 weeks. This effectiveness is contingent on the availability of adequate soil moisture and nutrients. Avoid grazing for 4 weeks to allow a successful response.

For best responses, applying up to 5 days after grazing is recommended, when there is enough leaf area for uptake. Avoid applying to new sown pastures in the first 6 months until plants are well established. There must be adequate soil moisture and NPKS nutrients at time of application. Nitrogen fertiliser can add additional dry matter production, independent of gibberellic acid application. Combining both gibberellic acid and nitrogen can boost pasture cover in autumn and winter.

Gibberellic acid is quick and easy to apply and can be mixed with compatible herbicides and insecticides. Webber and Chivell are currently measuring and recording autumn and winter dry matter responses to Accelerate 200SG Growth promotant.
